About the templating engine: this was one of the main reasons for me to get started with MODx. You actually can have {if then} conditionals if you install PHx ( <a href="http://bit.ly/dBg1t7" target="_blank">http://bit.ly/dBg1t7</a> docs: <a href="http://bit.ly/csGgva" target="_blank">http://bit.ly/csGgva</a> ).
